ACORN - Worse than expected

The more I learn about these guys the worse they look. Now it's pointed out that their lobbying helped bring on the financial issues we are dealing with today.

The new bailout bill that got totally shutdown by house Republican's yesterday got tossed out for various reasons. There was however one huge reason, the bill earmarked 20% of the funds for ACORN and it's projects. Good move as giving billions to the organization that helped get us here in the first place seems like a silly use for the money to me.

Acorn aside (b/c I really don't know anything about them but just wanted you to be nice to canvassers!)... Maybe I've misinterpreted last night's session? From what I've read, McCain and the repubs walked out b/c the dems wouldn't accept the plan put forth by the Bush admin. (the one you mention is giving special attention to lobbyist organizations)-- and I also read that Obama asked Paulin whether he believed that plan would actually work and Paulin said no. So, in your post you make it sound like McCain walked out b/c he didn't like the plan-- but I'm fairly sure he walked out b/c he was siding with the Bush backers.

Paulin actually had faith in the plan, but it kept getting mired down with more BS on top of turning the government into a financial institution with the treasury secretary having final say everything. There was no accountability in the package and it put all power withing the executive branch, a big no-no.

The deal never sat well with the house Republican's and even some of the Democrat's were scratching their heads over it. McCain and Obama were more or less observers, gave their two cents, but they had no more power than anyone else at that point as they are both still senators.

The funny thing is that other than the executive branch, the Dems have control of everything. If they really wanted to they could have passed the bill on through as it was, but they don't want to be the only ones voting yes on one of the most important piece of legislation we may see in our lifetimes. The bill was weak, both parties knew it and it got scuttled. The rest is politics to try and make the other side look like it's at fault, but really the whole things stems from slapping together a quick plan for a problem that's been festering over the years.

You can't truly address an issue without first knowing exactly where you are at and how you got there. Until they put on the brakes and get some real numbers together, they can't really plan for anything as you have no idea what you are really up against. Although it sounds like they may have something again today, more knee jerk legislation that may do more harm than good. :(

And yes, I'll be polite to all visitors to my house. I was no worse to them than any other sales type person that comes to my door to bother me. ;)

fyi... I've never heard much about Acorn, period, until just recently, so it's rather funny to me that they keep popping up! This is the latest from dailykos:
