Debate night

And truthfully, I don't think I'm going to watch as it's not going to change my vote and I'll share why.

Barack Obama accomplishments:

Built lots of low income housing like Grove Parc Plaza and other projects, some that have since been seized by the federal government all while taking political kickbacks from Rezko and the like. http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2008/06/27/grim_proving_ground_for_obamas_housing_policy/

Ran unopposed for his state senate seat in Chicago: http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/05/29/obamas.first.campaign/?iref=mpstoryview

Ran unopposed for state senate: http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/nation/ussenate/2004-07-29-ryan_x.htm

Sat in the senate for 144 days usually voting present until he decided to run for the presidency: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_days_has_Barack_Obama_served_in_the_US_Senate

He also wrote two books about himself in that amount of time too!

What I do give him credit for is taking down Hillary, but I thin that also has to do with the struggles within the Democratic party.

So what did he accomplish in the senate? Can anyone tell me?

I think it's funny how people are sooo fed up with Bush they are associating the entire party with him and his policy's. So much that they are willing to vote in a senator who voted just enough times between the "present" votes to earn the most liberal voting record in the senate. http://nj.nationaljournal.com/voteratings/

The big issue is that if the house and the senate remain democratic and we end up with all three branches of government under the same party, the politics of the country will swing far too quickly. The balance of power is removed and out comes the check book for programs that will make Bush look like a cheapskate. We simply can't afford to let this happen given the recession we are in, it will take us decades to catch back up if we don't end up pissing off the entire world we owe money to when the money flow dries up.

According to this chart we are in big trouble in our lifetimes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Debt_to_GDP_Forecast_Chart.png

If we don't get spending under control we are doomed as a country. The problem is that nobody in office or running for a political position wants to tell you that the well is drying up and that you better hold on to your ass because it's going to be getting ugly. No money = no military = bad news for us considering what is brewing in the middle east.

Bottom line is, they are both going to spend, but the one that spends less will drive our country off a cliff quicker.

While I don't believe in some of the religious rhetoric of the Republican party, I do believe in numbers as it's what the world runs on. If my children are going to get a shot at living a life in the United States, some things are just going to have to come under control.

I think maybe you should have watched the debate...

Here's an excerpt from a conservative's online response:

"Everytime I think McCain might start making a run at this thing, he pulls something dumb out of his butt. For someone to prattle on about big government spending and then say something like that takes a lot of something, and it ain’t good.

That’s about where I threw my remote at the TV and turned it off.

Got an absentee ballot sitting on my desk right now and half tempted to go down the capital steps tomorrow and burn it instead of voting.

The Republican candidate suggesting bailing out individual home owners. The REPUBLICAN.

I need a drink...

Obama; McCain
ketchup; catsup
stupid; dumb
communism; socialism

Let he and Cindy refinance bad loans and take the hit.

I was hesitant to put the McCain yard signs up in the first place. I guess I’ll take them down.

We all need a drink, my FRiend.

McCain is no conservative and he is no republican.

He is a disgrace."

Honestly I had been holding off on politicizing my blog until comparison videos and whatnot started showing up on others.

I seem to have been painted with a wide brush in another blog and truthfully it feels a little backhanded.

While my beliefs may differ from those close to me I respect them and their opinions. I love the country I live in where we all have a right to vote and say what we feel. While that right is guaranteed to us, there is no mention of the human aspect. The human aspect is respecting one another and understanding that what one writes and says can send a variety of messages to people. When you know who reads your blog is it really in good form for us to more or less say "what's wrong with those Republicans." Or, "Democrats, WTF"

So foolishly instead of just taking the high road I post my tirade about a candidate who I just can't get behind.

The bottom line is being opinionated is what makes us interesting and strong individuals. I would not like either one of you two if you were boring, disconnected and happy sitting in front of a TV all day. :) I do my best not to judge people in my life by their party affiliation and choose to surround myself with them by who they are as a person.

That being said, I'm so upset with all my choices at this point. I do believe in small government, low taxes and that I'm responsible for myself and my family. I believe that strong people make a strong country. On the other hand I believe that in the eyes of the government marriage is a contract between two people, man and woman is a religious interpretation, leave it out. When it comes to abortion, leave the laws as they are. While personally I'm pro-life in most cases, it's not my place or the governments to judge you, that's between you and a higher power. So no party represents me in this day and age and it's sad, but that wide brush still passes over me.

That's it, no more political posts from me. Politics is not worth destroying friendships over, there are far more important things in life to worry about.

Thanks for your comment, Glen! And I apologize if I offended you in my blog... I never meant anything specifically to be for you-- Living up here, we are surrounded by conservative folks. But I certainly agree that politics should never ruin a friendship! And I do respect your views; I just enjoy challenging them. ;) But, if it is upsetting, I certainly won't do it anymore. love you!!
